Agero Inc. to Drive UBI Discussion at Insurance Telematics 2014

Medford, Mass., August 26, 2014  Agero, Inc., a leading provider of vehicle and driver safety, security and information services, today announced that it will be exhibiting and speaking at the 2014 Insurance Telematics Conference being held September 3-4 at the Radisson Aqua Blu in Chicago. Agero will also be demoing (booth #19) its new mobile telematics platform and new product developments, as well as participating in keynote and panel sessions.

“We are excited to once again be participating in North America’s largest insurance telematics event,” said Dave Ferrick, President and CEO of Agero. “As a leader in claims management and security and information services, Agero understands the importance of UBI and we aim to transform the insurer-insured relationship by delivering key technology innovations for mobile solutions in this space.”

Agero’s Vice President of Product Development, Julian Bourne, will present a keynote discussion on the impact of mobile solutions on usage-based insurance (UBI) programs. Additionally, Senior Vice President of Strategy, Jeffrey Blecher, will participate in a panel session about the future of mobile apps as they relate to vehicle insurance providers.

The insurance industry is facing a new set of challenges and opportunities as UBI programs switch from using OBDII to using mobile app solutions. This will be the main theme of the panel session: The Great App Debate. This panel, Julian Bourne’s keynote and Agero’s plan to showcase a new mobile telematics app at the conference, demonstrate Agero’s leadership in UBI and telematics.

Details on the Agero speaker sessions include:

Keynote: Is Mobile the Answer?
When: September 4 from 9:05 – 9:40 a.m. CDT
Speaker: Julian Bourne, VP of Product Development, Agero
Mobile solutions have long been considered for UBI, with ongoing controversy over the accuracy of the data they collect. Julian Bourne’s insights and observations will dispel many misconceptions and uncover emerging truths as he discusses:

  • Whether “noise” created by smartphones collecting data when the insured is a passenger (or on public transport) can be eliminated in order to accurately define the driver population.
  • How mobile crash notification combined with the filing of claims “on-the-go” through mobile apps will accelerate the claims process and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Understanding the VAS suite deemed relevant to UBI (such as vehicle diagnostics – e.g., checking the engine light to determine the mobile solution’s ability offer these services).

Panel Session: The Great App Debate
When: September 3 from 2:15 – 2:55 p.m. CDT
Speaker: Jeffrey Blecher, Senior VP of Strategy, Agero

Jeffrey Blecher will discuss the future of apps and how they will impact small insurance carriers. Specifically, Jeffrey will explain how apps and consumers go hand-in-hand, compare and contrast smartphone OBD2 data, and how to substantiate smartphone UBI data with traditional proxies.

“The Insurance Telematics conference is uniting the best companies in the insurance, software and automotive industries to examine the next steps to move the insurance telematics industry forward, including new developments in UBI, and bring these innovations to the mass-market,” comments Harriet Molyneaux, project director at Telematics Update. “We are excited that Agero will be presenting its expertise on mobile solutions and how the company is helping support the rise of UBI and telematics in the industry.”
