The biggest company you’ve never heard of...and why that’s the point

“Brooke, you started your new job, where do you work?” “Agero!” *Cue Blank Stare*

As a tail-end millennial, former New Yorker, and present Miamian, this highly-anticipated question is a haunting size-up. God forbid you say something uncool, like you work for IBM vs Coca Cola…you’re not getting another dinner party invite. I internally sigh as I prepare to answer, because they just don’t get it…yet.

What I answer: Yes, You’ve probably never heard of Agero.

But you’ve almost definitely needed us. Everyone has had an “everyday moment.” You’re on 5 hours of sleep, you spilled coffee on your pants, it’s pouring rain, and to top it off, you get a flat as you’re on the road to the office. Not fun. Not glamorous. Who helped you? It was probably us: Agero.

This is when I “wow” the dinner party with a proverbial hair flip. The big reveal. Agero is actually quite cool. Think: Scale. Impact. The behind-the-scenes nature of the work.

Teamwork and collaboration

I mention the network of 8,000 curated service providers and eyes light up. And yes, I learned that on my first day! Don’t worry, I’m defending Agero on the social scene. The tower or service person who helped you was most likely knowledgeable, quick, helpful, kept things light in a moment of crisis, was reassuring, and collaborative on next steps. And in my first week, I already know that is the spirit of working at Agero. Collaborative, fast-moving, and mission driven without being preachy. As Beth said to me, “we are a craft beer and hamburger joint, not a steakhouse,” (I’m a vegetarian, but I’m picking up what you’re putting down, Beth!).

I knew I’d be working alongside superstars from my first interview to onboarding with my incredibly smart and agile team; meeting the nicest folks across IT, L&D, Creative, Marketing, etc. I already see the common thread: scrappiness, the”family-owned” feel, and the layered prestige and innovation of being a tech company. Most importantly, the real-world impacts and relationships. The mom-and-pop partners we work and have incredible relationships with. The customers we help in annoying, inconvenient, and sometimes scary moments. Knowing we gave them reprieve, a sigh of relief in mere minutes from the touch of a smart phone.

Creating safety and reassurance for 150M+ customers

Being the biggest company you’ve never heard of is in fact a “flex.”

Creating safety and reassurance for 150 million customers for 50+ years is exactly the kind of business I want to be a part of; and I can’t wait to create narratives that reflect Agero’s core.
